Tampa residents who love good food will be licking their lips with anticipation, as Ulele has finally announced its opening. The long-anticipated restaurant will open its doors August 26, at 5 pm.
Ulele will be located inside Tampa Height’s pump house, a historic structure in which the pumps, which delivered fresh water to residents, were steam-powered. The restaurant will begin operations two weeks after the opening of the adjacent Water Works Park, which has just been renovated.
The park will open August 12, and features a dog park, an overlook near the Hillsborough River shaped to resemble the prow of a ship, a river walk extension, and a splash playground that features a giant bucket to drench kids with water. Together, the restaurant and the park hope to provide a full day’s outing.
Ulele’s chef, Eric Lackey, is inspired by early settlers to the area, who used the resources of the Hillsborough River to prepare their meals. Chef Lackey intends to use native Florida ingredients, such as oysters and blue crabs when in season, to make certain his menu is local and fresh. Ulele will be open only for dinner at first, but plans are in place to add lunch and brunch hours later this year.
