Many Corgi owners here in Tampa will be taking their furry friends to the 2026 Corgi Derby coming to Tampa in mid-April.
This will be a family-friendly novelty dog race where Corgis enter multiple heats in short distant sprints. Qualifying heats will be composed of six to 10 little guys, and the top finishers will compete in a championship heat. Owners will release their pets at the starting line and a person familiar to them will be calling from the finish line. Although the races last only seconds, there is always short legs creating big drama.
Race officials will be determining the winners.
Registration fees will be $10 per dog and will include a donation to the nonprofit Corgi Aid organization, race bandanas, event T-Shirts and printed race line up sheets.
Organizations that present events like often get their paper products such a race line up sheets at local Print shops.
Tampa Bay Corgi Races will be hosting the event and will manage the check-in, heat assignments, volunteer coordination, and safety protocols.
Spectators will pay $10 each, children 10 and under will get in for free and most will be lining up alongside the racetrack behind the ropes urging their favorite short-legged athletes to win.
The 2026 Corgi Derby will take place at Tampa Bay Downs, Skye Terrace, 11225 Race Track Road, Saturday, April 18th from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm.
