Visual artists are being sought by the city of Orlando to display their artwork in celebration of Black History Month.
The theme for this year, “African Americans and the Arts,” focuses on how art is an important part of Black culture and heritage. This display offers an opportunity for local artists to highlight the history of African Americans and celebrate the many Black contributions made to the performing and visual arts, music, film, and literature.
Submissions need to be sent to the Office of Multicultural Affairs by this Sunday, January 7, and should include the name of the artist, a biography, photographs of at least five pieces of artwork in digital format, and descriptions about each piece of artwork.
Poster printing is often used throughout a city to inform artists of such opportunities to submit work for special exhibitions.
Artists will be selected based on the suitability of their proposal to the project. There needs to be a demonstration on the part of the artists to clearly communicate through both written materials and visual means the concepts of the artwork. In addition, the artist needs to have a professional history of finishing projects on time and an ability to work cooperatively.
This exhibit will be at Orlando City Hall in the Terrace Gallery, and will be part of the events for Black History Month in February. The exhibit will run from Friday, February 2 to Sunday, March 31.
