Ocoee to start May with yearly run
In Ocoee next month, the West Orange Junior Service League will host its 11th annual Run for the Roses in celebration of the Kentucky Derby.
Serving West Orange for 70 years, the West Orange Junior Service League is a dedicated nonprofit organization whose mission is to serve the community through public works and civic engagement. The League also devotes much of its efforts to fundraisers, with Run for the Roses being one of its biggest of the year.
Guests of the event will have the opportunity to watch the 147th Kentucky Derby race in a chic, upscale atmosphere. There will be games, a live DJ, Derby-themed food, and specialty beverages from an open bar to enjoy. Attendees are encouraged to dress up in their best Derby garb and fancy hats, with a Best Ladies Derby Hat contest and a Best Dressed Man contest to enter. The popular Run for the Roses Silent Auction will also be returning this year.
