Ocoee event raises thousands

Ocoee was the site of the recent Ocoee River Jam, which raised money to support programs for youth in the local area.

Altogether, $4,000 was raised, which will be distributed amongst four different community groups in the Polk County and Bradley area. One of these is the Boys and Girls Club of Cleveland Powers Unit, which will be given new recreational items. The Boys and Girls Club of Benton benefited from new computers and also a donation to put towards its building fund, while Stanley Steamers got new kayaking equipment, and the American Red Cross was given a contribution to help fund its swimming programs for youth.

Across the three years that the event has been held, almost $12,000 has been collected. The president of Ocoee River Jam, Inc., Julie Thornton, remarked that the festival serves two purposes in that it showcases local area talent, while also raising funds for good causes that help youth throughout the community.
