New care facility under construction in Ocoee

A partnership between the NFL Alumni Association and a Florida based developer will see the construction of a new facility in Ocoee for former NFL players who suffer from Alzheimer’s disease, as well as other similar medical conditions.

The price tag for the development will come in at around $1.1bn, and it is the first institution of its kind that will cater to the needs of those who played in the NFL. Over the next five years, plans call for a further 33 across the country. They will be situated in cities that have high numbers of former players.

The facility will provide space for 158 residents, who will receive socialized care that has been developed for those in their situation. Validus Senior Living will provide a range of services and memory care supports to those who live there. A stationery printing company can provide different forms of signage and other materials that can help to assist the residents whose cognitive abilities mean thy are struggling to function in their day-to-day lives

According to a representative of the Central and North Florida Alzheimer’s Association, former football players can develop dementia-related issues at a younger age, and this means that they often require care that is geared specifically towards their needs. She also noted that living with others who have also played professionally can be beneficial to them.
