What's Happening in Ocoee, FL…

Ocoee, Florida, is a community built on citrus. One of the earliest non-Native settlers here, Bluford M. Sims, bought land from Dr. J.D. Starke, who gave his name to Starke Lake. Sims used the land to cultivate citrus trees, establishing the country’s first citrus nursery here. The land where Sims grew his trees is now part of the present Ocoee downtown. Today, major roads link the community with nearby Orlando, and the easy access means many residents work in the city.
