Event to bring runners together near Ocoee
A distance running event is coming to Ocoee next month to support a good cause, and people are encouraged to lace their shoes in preparation.
The Shark Stride 5K, organized by 20 local Physician Assistant students, will offer runners in Ocoee and the surrounding area an opportunity to take on the challenge for a worthy cause. The annual event aims to raise money for a medical mission trip to the Alta Verapaz region of Guatemala, which will bring medical experts and humanitarian aid.
The event’s organizers will collaborate with a Physician Assistant-led non-profit organization to provide aid to the region's indigenous population. The proceeds from the 5K run will go toward medical supplies, smoke-diverting stoves, and water filtration systems to provide Guatemalan citizens with a healthy and sustainable way of life. Flyer printing is often the chosen way to raise awareness of causes and events like this.
The 5K run is designed as a fun event. All registered participants receive a participation medal, as well as a special T-shirt to commemorate the running event. Attendees are welcome to bring a stopwatch to keep track of their progress.
The race, to be held at Bill Frederick Park, will start on Saturday, June 8, beginning at 8:00 AM. General admission tickets start at $35 per runner and can be reserved online.
