In a meeting on May 7, Ocoee City Commissioners gave the green light to the building of a Summit Self Storage facility.
The facility will be built on the Fountains West development at the West Road and Ocoee Apopka Road intersection.
The Fountains West development was approved in 2006 and is a retail shopping center that currently has several businesses, including Publix, Subway and Pizza Hut, along with SunTrust and Fifth Third Banks. The currently undeveloped land that will house the storage facility was rezoned to a light industrial to commercial land.
Ocoee and other surrounding areas have seen continual growth especially in single family homes, multifamily housing and businesses. With limited storage options available, both residents and business owners can benefit from the planned three-story indoor storage unit, which will consist of just over 100,000 square feet. The facility will be built on approximately 11 acres.
Residents can use the facility as overflow storage for the likes of sporting equipment and seasonal items. Businesses that use printing services for bulk brochure printing and Promotional Products can use the facility to store excess products to save on having to obtain larger retail space.
The storage unit is part of Phase 1 for Fountains West and plans call for building additional retail space or a daycare. Phase 2 of the project is for the Ocoee Fire Department to build a new station.
