Blueberry season arrives in Ocoee
Though it may be somewhat delayed this year, for farmers in the Ocoee area and the rest of Florida as well, blueberry season has arrived and a pair of local sites are now open.
The berries depend upon getting a certain amount of cooler temperatures to develop, and since this past winter was somewhat warmer than usual, the season started a bit late. Two farms that grow these small fruits can be found in the local area, and both Tom West Blueberries and Beck Brothers Blueberries are now open for business.
These two ‘u-pick’ farms give the public an opportunity to come in and harvest the berries on their own. Those who do so get a chance to obtain the freshest and ripest produce without paying the higher prices they would if they were to purchase them in a grocery store. They will stay open until the season is over and no more berries are left, which typically happens in the first weeks of June. Booklet printing services can be used to make brochures containing recipes, produce storage hints, and offer other information that can be useful to those who come out to farms such as these.
Once picked, this fruit, which is high in antioxidants, can be kept in the fridge for several weeks. It can also be frozen or made into jams or other preserves, squeezed to make juice, or used to make pies and other desserts.
