The Summer Sunrise Watermelon 5K is to be held in Lakeland Florida this July.
The event consists of four races, each going around Lake Hollingsworth, which is a flat area conducive to fast running. The length of each run is 3.1 miles.
As a new initiative this year, the entire first mile will be on the roadway in order to give runners more space. The path narrows around the lake, and this effort gives faster participants the opportunity to break away from larger groups.
The series comes from the Lakeland Runners Club, Inc., which is a local non-profit organization celebrating fitness and physical health for people of all ages and abilities. They do so through weekly community runs, youth running programs, and training opportunities for locals. The event is volunteer-run, with over 150 volunteers working towards the club's mission of promoting health and fitness. Their aim with this event is to provide scholarships to high school runners throughout Polk County.
Patrons entering the races must indicate by signing up on the event's website. The event is open to all ages, including children. The cost for entry is $20. Those who would like to participate in groups must use the same finish time when signing up.
Poster printing can be a useful way to offer information about the races included in this event.
The 5K will be held on Saturday, July 9 at Lake Hollingsworth, in Lakeland. The race begins at 7:00 am.
