Last Wednesday, April 3, the Country Club in Lakeland reopened with a new look, albeit without nautical benefits like the renowned yacht.
The club is located next to Lake Hollingsworth, which is not connected to an additional body of water. It hopes to honor its long past since 1924 while embracing the future.
According to seasoned member of the club Jim Luffman, the renovations makes the space more economically efficient and easier to use. He found the design to be above his expectations, and believes that before the remodel, the building was not operating as well as it could have been. A new gym was added as one of the updates, and includes cardio and weightlifting machines.
The remodel cost $7.4m and reflects the Mediterranean and Spanish motif that the original club sported. Membership has increased due to the interior and exterior improvements, which is welcomed because the private club had dropped to 150 members recently, which were divided on how to renovate the club. Some wanted to demolish and start over, while others wanted to make improvements to the existing structure.
The remodel won the vote and those in favor expressed their excitement at the ribbon-cutting event. Many members, including Luffman, paid dues even when the club was under construction for over three years. They were honored at event.
An influx of members for a club often means printing more membership cards, which are not dissimilar to Business Cards.
