Lakeland college added physical therapy program

Florida Southern College in Lakeland has broken ground for the School of Physical Therapy. The school is set to open next year in August.

FSC Finance and Administration Vice President Terry Dennis has two children who are physical therapists. He and several other administrators celebrated the start of the project at the end of October.

When the new program is in full swing, graduates will have the credentials to work in private practice, hospitals, inpatient and outpatient clinics, home healthcare, nursing homes, and assisted living organizations. According to Robert Tate, the Vice President of Advancement at FSC, multiple hospitals in the area will work with the school for the benefit of the students and graduates.

Students will have experiences with nonprofit healthcare organizations such as Volunteers in Service to the Elderly, Parkview Medical Clinic, Florida Baptist Children's Homes, and Lakeland Volunteers in Medicine. Community Engagement Director Prisca Collins said that community collaborations allow students to give back to the community while learning, which is part of a physical therapist's mission. Many schools offer free clinics to serve the same purpose.

Once the school has accreditation, the doctorate program will be able to have 36 students. It will also consist of seven main administrators that the university will have by the beginning of next year. The dean and program director will be Nany Nuzzo.

Schools inside universities usually have their own Letterheads for official correspondence between students, faculty, and partners.
