Roscoe's Chili Challenge is coming back to Lakeland.
This is the 35th year of the festival, which is one of the top ten motorcycle events in the country, according to Riders-share.com. Motorcycle magazines such as Born to Ride, In the Wind, and Wheels on the Road advertise it yearly.
Challengers start cooking chili in the morning. Judges get samples at noon before tasting is open to the public. Grand prize and runner-up in the hot and mild categories will win prizes, with a total purse worth $2,000. There will also be a People’s Choice winner.
The Chili Challenge Bands will provide live music also available to hear by radio. Other than chili, attendees can enjoy tattoo and body paint contests, a cornhole competition, and other motorcycle-based activities such as a minibike race.
General admission for all four days is $50, or admission for Saturday only is $40. The first 1,000 people to register will earn Promotional Products such as patches designed for the event. Proceeds will go toward the Polk County Christmas Angels, a non-profit that provides services for children in need.
Attendees must be 21 or over, and no glass bottles or dogs are permitted. Attendees who want to camp on the premises must ride a motorcycle to the event.
Roscoe’s Chili Challenge will be near the Bikers on Motorcycles camping area at 5320 Shady Oak Drive North. The festival takes place between November 5 to 8, with the cook-off starting at 8:30 am on November 8.
