Lakeland administration has promoted Michael Shawn Sherrouse.
Born in Lakeland, Sherrouse was the third highest-ranking administration official as the assistant city manager and now he has gone up the ladder to the second. He will start his new position next Monday, July 23. Beginning in August, the city will look for a replacement assistant city manager.
Tony Delgado, manager of the city, disclosed the news on July 11. Brad Johnson, Sherrouse's predecessor, left on July 4 to work for the government in Sarasota County. In his new position, Sherrouse will supervise Human Resources, RP Funding Center, the department of Economic and Community Development, and several other local departments. Collective bargaining for the office will also be his responsibility.
A graduate of Auburndale High, Sherrouse served in the Marine Corps for eight years before attending Warner University. There, he earned a bachelors in Organizational Management and continued on to the University of South Florida and earned a Masters in Public Administration. He was the assistant city manager for in Auburndale for two decades before filling the role in Lakeland.
The reason Sherrouse is returning to Lakeland is due to his family's deep roots in the city. He has memories of Lakeland and the surrounding area. He made a name for himself in sports for the close-knit community.
