Walkers on the move for annual Heart Walk

Jacksonville’s 2023 First Coast Heart Walk will be taking place in early September. The goal this year is to raise $2,000,000 for the American Heart Association.

Two distances are available. One will be the 3.1 mile (5 kilometer) for most runners and walkers, and a one-mile route for beginners and survivors. Heart disease survivors will be wearing red caps and stroke survivors will wear white caps. Participants are to bring water bottles, snacks, and sunscreen.

Although the event will not have a registration fee, participants are asked to donate what they can or raise money through pledges. Those raising $100 or more may choose items such as T-shirts sporting the Heart Walk graphic design from Heart Walk Hero Gear at the Rewards Center.

Company leaders will be heading efforts at participating companies. Coaches will recruit walkers, and walkers will help raise funds. Many walkers at the event wear colorful shirts that feature their company logo design. Company photo times will be posted by the bleachers on event day.

The Heart Walk is suitable for all ages and a Kids’ Zone will have life-sized yard games, as well as the Jacksonville Jaguars Fan Bus.

The First Coast Heart Walk will take place at the Jacksonville Fairgrounds, 510 Fairground Place on September 9, beginning at 8:00 am. The walk will start at 9:30 am.
