Symphony has eclectic April offering

The Jacksonville Symphony Orchestra (JSO) will be presenting three programs in April.

One will be an evening of John Williams and Steven Spielberg collaborations; another will be the final performance of its Solo Organ Recital Series; and finally Mozart’s Groundbreaker Piano Concerto will round off the series.

The Fidelity National Financial Pops Series will present John Williams & Steven Spielberg on Friday, April 1 and Saturday, April 2 at 7:30 pm. Music will come from the pair’s 28 films and will be conducted by Gonzalo Farias, the JSO’s associate conductor.

The following evening on Sunday, April 3, artist-in-residence Greg Zelek will perform a solo organ recital on the Bryan Concert Organ. He will be highlighting the full range of the organ by playing pieces from the Baroque era through to modern works.

On April 8 and 9, beginning at 7:30 pm, the Florida Blue Classical Series will present Mozart's Groundbreaker: Piano Concerto No. 25. The performance will begin with neo-composer Tarik O’Regan’s piece titled “Raï.” The orchestra will then present Franz Joseph Haydn’s Symphony No. 95 and end with pianist Jonathan Biss playing Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s Piano Concerto No. 25. The symphony orchestra will be under the baton of Courtney Lewis.
