Residents run over the river

In just a few days’ time, Jacksonville locals will be able to take part in the biggest 15K race in the U.S.

The 'Gate River Run' features a USA 15K Championship run and walk and a 5K race. For kids of ages 13 and under, there will also be a Junior River Run, which is a one-mile fun run with four heats. Littles ones can compete in a Diaper Dash and anyone can participate in the ‘Brooks Rehabilitation Challenge Mile’.

Serious athletes can test themselves in the 15K, with a cash prize up for grabs. However, walkers are also welcome to participate. The 5K is a fun run and walk that will benefit a wide variety of charities.

After the race, participants can go to the post-race party at Jacksonville Fairgrounds with free refreshments, live entertainment, and activities for the kids. No doubt the event organizers have used a Print company to make promotional materials for the race and post-celebration.

Registration costs $55 for the 15K and $35 for the 5K. Competitors aged 13 and under, and seniors will be given a $10 discount. The Junior River Run, Diaper Dash, and Rehabilitation Challenge Mile are all free, although participants in the latter are encouraged to donate $10 to the Brooks Adaptive Sports and Recreation Program.

On March 14 at 8:30 am, the 15K and 5K will begin. The Challenge Mile will start at 10:00 am and the Diaper Dash will take place at 11:00 am. Awards will be distributed at 10:30 am.

The Jacksonville Fairgrounds are located at 510 Fairgrounds Place.
