Locals get free trees at annual event

The Fourth Annual Arbor Day Festival and Greenscape Tree Giveaway is now scheduled for mid-October.

The local community is invited to come to the Jacksonville Fairgrounds, 510 Fairgrounds Place, for free trees and family fun. Kids can meet Smokey the Bear and enjoy tree-themed arts and crafts. There will be talks given on the environment and trees.

This event is a new twist to the Greenscape’s yearly tree sale. This Arbor Day Festival, Greenscape will be giving away thousands of trees as long as supplies last. Trees to be given away will be Southern magnolia, red bud, bald cypress, live oak, fringe tree, crape myrtle, red maple and dahoon holly.

Specially selected vendors will be on site hawking arts, crafts, garden-related supplies, and plants. Local nurseries will be on hand to answer questions and give advice.

This will raise fund to support Greenscape of Jacksonville, a nonprofit with a mission to promote, plant, and protect Jacksonville’s trees.

Organizations that put on events such as this often have photographers take pictures throughout the venue. These pictures are then frequently taken to local Print shops or Stationery printers to be used in advertising or visitor guide brochure printing for the following year.

The event is scheduled for October 24 from 9:00am until 2:00pm, and it will be free to attend.
