FTC Running and 1st Place Sports will hold their 2nd annual VyStar Emerald Trail 5K later this month. Proceeds will go to Groundwork Jacksonville.
The event will begin at Andrew A. Robinson Elementary School and the course will be an out-and-back to Klutho Park. The course will allow participants to view various points of interest along Hogans Creek and future S-Line Connector sections of the Emerald Trail.
Awards will go to the top male and female finishers in the 5K run and to the top three male and female finishers in 16 age categories.
The bike component will be a leisurely ride of the trial. Bikes will leave the starting line at 7:30 am followed by the run/walk at 8:00 am. The start to both races will be done in waves. The bike component will not be timed, but the run/walk will have chip timing.
Registration is $35 for the 5K and bike event and $25 for the over 65 and under 13 age groups. Prices go up to $40 and $30 respectively from October 18 to 22. On event day registration will be $50 and $40.
All participants will receive custom designed shirts featuring the Emerald Trail 5K graphic design and finisher medals.
Vystar Emerald Trail 5k will take place Saturday, October 23 from 7:30 am to 10:00 am, beginning at 101 W 12th Street. At 9:00 am, the awards ceremony will take place close to the finish line.
