Jacksonville Symphony is energetically greeting the new year with a busy schedule.
The symphony’s Florida Blue Masterworks series will start the year with an evening of Mozart’s Prague and Prokofiev on January 8 and 9. The program will consist of Mozart’s “Prague” Symphony No. 38 and Prokofiev’s “Sinfonia Concertante.” Courtney Lew will be the Music Director and Joshua Roman will be the cellist.
The first Pops concert of the year will be on January 15 and 16, as the symphony presents Broadway Today. The performance will be 60 to 75 minutes of Broadway tunes from famous Broadway plays and musicals.
The morning of January 15 at 11:00 am, the Raymond James Coffee Series will present New York Pop’s Principal conductor, Steven Reineke and the symphony playing Broadway favorites such as the music from Les Misérables and Cabaret.
That will be followed by Dvorak’s New World on January 22 and 23. The conductor for the evening will be the debut of the symphony’s Associate Conductor Gonzalo Farias. The program will be “Banner”, our National Anthem anniversary tribute by Montgomery and Dvorak’s “From the New World” Symphony No. 9.
Gonzalo Farias will also conduct “Brass, Organ, Winds and Percussion,” a special presentation on January 29. Greg Zelek will play the Bryan Concert Organ. All performances will begin at 7:30 pm.
