The Jacksonville Symphony will be holding its 2018 Symphony Gala in a few days.
The special guest for the evening will be the soprano Renee Fleming. Conductor for the evening will be Courtney Lewis.
The evening will begin with an hour and a half VIP reception, followed by the symphony and Fleming’s hour and a half performance. Following that will be a VIP dinner and an After Glow Party.
Program Brochures tell us that the evening will open with four Strauss pieces – Overture to Die Fledermaus, Op.367, Four Last Songs, and Der Rosenkavalier Suite, Op. 59.
This will be followed by Puccini’s ‘O Mio Babbino Caro’ and ‘Song to the Moon’ from Dvorak’s opera Rusalka. The performance will close with ‘I Could Have Danced All Night” from Lerner & Lowe’s My Fair Lady, and Gershwin’s Porgy and Bess – ‘Summertime’.
Fleming completed her 26th year with the New York Metropolitan Opera in May 2017. She has backed down from her diva roles but still retains her membership on Carnegie Hall Corporation’s Board of Trustees, and is currently giving recitals and concerts across the U.S.
Titled ‘Evening of Grandeur’, the event will be this Saturday, January 20, at Robert E. Jacoby Symphony Hall, 300 Water Street, Jacksonville. The VIP reception will begin at 5:30 pm, the performance curtain will go up at 7:00 pm, the VIP dinner starts at 8:30 pm, and the After Glow Party will be at 10:00 pm.
