Jacksonville runs for pumpkins

Runners here in Jacksonville will be heading over to the Evergreen Pumpkin Run slated for the end of October.

The 10-mile course will be partly within the cemetery and lined with pumpkins while the 5k will be completely in the cemetery.

Swag will include finisher medals and green long-sleeve shirts sporting the running pumpkin graphic design for both the 5k and 10k runners, pumpkins lining the course and a $25.00 1st Place Sports gift card for the scariest, funniest and best overall costumes in the Halloween Costume contest.

The top three male and female overall finishers in the 10 k will receive $200 for first place, $150 for second and $100 for third and the first male and female runners to finish in the Master's division will get $50. Awards will go to the first three male and female finishers in 14 age categories. Awards will also go to the top female and male overall finishers in the 5k and to the aforementioned age groups plus those runners in the 11–13-year-old category and the 10 and under.

A post-race celebration will have drinks and free food after the races, and participants may take home pumpkins afterwards.

Registration will be $50 for the 5k and $60 for the 10k. Proceeds from the race will go to benefit the Jacksonville Historical Society and Evergreen Cemetery Association.

This year's Evergreen Pumpkin Run will be Sunday, October 27th beginning at 8:00 am at the Evergreen Cemetery, 4535 North Main.
