Jacksonville Pops gets patriotic

The Jacksonville Symphony will perform Patriotic Pops as part of the Fidelity National Financial Pops Series. The performances will be on two evening over Memorial Day weekend.

Nathan Aspinall, associate conductor for the orchestra, will be the featured artists for both performances. He will be conducting selections of patriotic traditional favorites.

Along with the Star Spangled Banner, the program will include Victory at Sea, American Salute by Gould, and America the Beautiful. The middle of the program will be Sousa’s Simper Fidelis and Lincoln Portrait by Copland. There will be a salute to the armed forces, and the evenings will end with Tchaikovsky’s 1812 Overture.

The symphony’s Memorial Day Weekend Patriotic Pops will be Friday, May 24 and Saturday, May 25 at Robert E. Jacoby Symphony Hall, 300 Water Street. Performances will start at 8:00 pm.

The symphony will also hold a Patriotic Pops – Coffee as part of its Raymond James Coffee Series. The conductor will be Principal Pops Conductor Michael Krajewski. The program will be identical to the evening performances. However, this performance will be in the morning of the 24th with the curtain going up at 11:00 am.

The Patriotic Pops Coffee will also take place at Robert E. Jacoby Symphony Hall.
