The Carnival Organization of Jacksonville will be bringing its annual Jacksonville Caribbean Carnival to town in mid-August.
The festival will feature brilliant costumes, vibrant music and dance, and food vendors selling all kinds of Caribbean treats.
Calypso and soca will be in the air as live bands touting that signature steel-drum sound will be playing throughout the venue, with local DJs filling in between sets. There will also be the high-energy dancing and colorful costumes associated with the region.
Local school clubs, civic groups, and nonprofits will be on site, passing out information about their services and mission statements, along with interactive displays and demonstrations.
Artists will be displaying and selling their Caribbean-themed creations. Attendees will be asking their favorite artists for their Business Cards for future purchases.
The fiesta will culminate with a parade through Jacksonville to the Food, Craft and Music Festival. Six bands have registers for the parade; they include Tombey Warriors, Classi Waves Mas, KonQwest Mas, and Nobroughtupcy.
Parade prizes will be $500 for first place, $300 for second and $200 for third. The parade is scheduled to start at the intersection of A. Phillip Randolph Boulevard and 1st Street and end at the carnival at Metro Park 2, 1410 Gator Bowl Blvd.
The Jacksonville Caribbean Carnival will be Saturday, August 11th with the parade starting at 1:00 pm. Stage performances will end at 9:00 pm.
