Jacksonville exercises for healthy lungs

This month, Jacksonville residents can work up a sweat while supporting healthy lungs.

The ‘Lung Force Run and Walk’ is a nationwide event that helps raise awareness about lung cancer, asthma, pollution, and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. The American Lung Association leads Lung Force, the intent of which is to inform people about lung cancer misconceptions while promoting lung health.

Registration is $25 for each individual, but participants are also encouraged to do additional fundraising as well. Anyone who raises a minimum of $100 will be given a special Lung Force T-shirt. Those under 18 years of age need an adult to accompany them. Finally, people also have the option to register as a team.

Due to the significance of the event, it would be no surprised if a printing company had been used to make promotional materials for the run and walk. Banners are often hung up to direct participants to registration tables and to highlight sponsors.

Individuals who want to make an impact but cannot attend can register as a virtual participant. There is also an option to sign up as a volunteer. These options do not include any fees, but guests can make a 'self-donation' on the event’s website if they wish.

The event takes place on August 23 at Jacksonville Landing, located at 2 Independent Drive. Check-in and registration will begin at 7:00 am and the run/walk starts at 8:00 am.
