Jacksonville celebrates Caribbean heritageOne Caribbean Inc. will be presenting its fourth annual CaribFest soon. The event will be a combination Caribbean heritage celebration and the awarding of an education scholarship to a high school student of Caribbean decent.
Caribbean heritage will be expressed through displays, demonstrations and vending of arts and crafts by talented artists and craft people either from or have roots in exotic Jamaica, Aruba, St. Kitts, St. Thomas, the Antilles, the Bahamas and other islands.
Authentic foods will be offered by food vendors.
Musical performances will include Tano Metro and Devonte, Platinum Band, 418 Band, Scholars Word, Pili Pili and J-Stone. Fans of these bands may want to check with them to see if they have any Promotional Products for sale. Local DJs will be spinning old and new hit songs. Acts such as poets, dancers, comedians and models will be representing Caribbean cultures. Guests in the audience can take part in trivia games for prizes.
Keitha Nelson, a news anchor from Jacksonville’s First Coast News will be the keynote speaker. Ms. Nelson will also be giving out the $3,000 Academic Scholarship Award. This award will help some deserving graduating high school student with college expenses and tuition.
Caribfest 2017 will be Saturday, June 17th at Jacksonville Landing, 2 West Independent Drive, Jacksonville. The event will start at 2:00 pm and end at 11:59 pm. Admission will be free.
