Jacksonville anglers get to try their luck

The Greater Jacksonville’s 36th Annual Kingfish Tournament and Festival is almost here.

This year’s five-day event will have three days of fishing competition, or five days including the Jr. Angler Offshore Tournament and Kids’ Dock competition.

The purpose of this event is not only to get fishing fanatics together for challenges, but also to raise funds for local charities supported by Marine Charities, Inc.

The first competition will be the Redfish tournament. A couple of days later, the younger set will participate in the Jr. Angler Offshore Tournament. Then, the main fishing competition will be spread over two days. The final Saturday will have a Jr. Angler fishing seminar, a Kids’ Dock Tournament, and a Kids’ Zone. It will also have the awards ceremonies, the golf cart, and Costa Rica vacation drawings.

The festival will have food, 30 ‘boatique’ vendors, exhibitors, and a boat show. Those participating will want to have pictures taken of themselves and their prize winning fish for possible later poster printing, as future proof of the actual size of the fish they boast of catching.

The fishing gala will be from July 18 through 23 at Jim King Park and Boat Ramp at Sisters Creek at 8203 Heckscher Drive, Jacksonville. Times will vary according to activities and days. Admission and parking will be free.
