The traditional Deck the Chairs event is coming in late November to Jackonsville.
More than 70 local businesses and non-profits decorate lighted lifeguard chairs used over the summer at Jax Beach.
For the third year, the Annual Student Decorating Challenge will invite 10 local high school and middle schools to submit sketches and designs for and construction of decorated lifeguard chairs. Awards will be given in numerous categories.
Schools that win competitions like this often go to local Print shops to have pictures of the winning entry enlarged so they can place them with other trophies in their trophy cases.
Open to the public and free, along with the lighted chairs, the event will feature a musical light show, student exhibits, and live entertainment nightly.
Let Young Hearts Shine will open the event on Wednesday November 27th at 6:30 pm and voting for the best chair will begin.
Other programs on other days and nights will include dance academies, gymnastic and dance groups, Jacksonville Suzuki Strings, school bands, and a hand bell ensemble. On Friday December 6th from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm there will be Moonlight Movies, and on Saturday the 14th the stage will have a Tuba Christmas. On Friday the 27th there will be a Taxslayer Gator Bowl Pep Rally at 4:00 pm.
The 2024 Jax Beach Deck the Chairs will be at the Seawalk Pavilion and Laham Plaza, Jacksonville Beach. The event will close January 1, 2025, at 9:00 pm.
