American Lung Association holds annual run/walk

The American Lung Association will host its Lung Force Run/Walk for 2021 this month. The Jacksonville event’s goal this year is to raise $85,000.

More of a celebratory event than a competition, all abilities and ages are invited to run, powerwalk or stroll the course.

Participants can register online on the event’s website as individuals or teams, and those that took part last year can recreate their team from back then. All registrants are encouraged to accumulate fundraiser money pledges from their co-workers, friends and families.

A virtual option called “Walk Your Way Challenge” is available for those that wish to participate in their own time and at their own location. The activation week for these participants include downloading the Lung Force app, starting a fundraiser on Facebook, building a team, taking selfies, and uploading a “Why I Walk” message. Other suggestions include creating funny videos on TikTok, writing to D.C. senators and representative supporting accessible healthcare, giving thanks to healthcare workers and fundraising donors, and doing 36 minutes of activity.

Corporate teams that will be supporting this event include Memorial Hospital, Mayo Clinic, Lungs R Us CSI Companies, and Care Plus. Other non-participating corporations are giving monetary Corporate Gifts and supporting their teams through smaller online donations.

This year’s Lung Force Run/Walk will take place August 21 at Haskell Company, 111 Riverside Avenue, starting at 8:00 am.
