Popular parade coming to Hollywood

There are many ways to celebrate the holidays, and Hollywood will 0once again be throwing a party as it has done for over 60 years.

The upcoming Hollywood Beach Candy Cane Parade celebration is the 64th time the event will be held. The Candy Cane Parade, which is one of the nation's longest-running parades that celebrates the holidays, first rolled out in the mid-1950s. The event was begun by a number of merchants in Hollywood, who wanted a way to bring customers to the businesses and shops, located throughout the downtown area.

From a few participants in the first parade, the event has grown by the year. Today, dozens of vehicles and lighted floats take part, marching past thousands of watchers who flock to the city's Broadwalk to see the fun. The Broadwalk is one of the most-visited attractions in the city; a true boardwalk that runs for several miles along the Atlantic. “Travel + Leisure” magazine once selected the Hollywood Broadwalk as one of the nation's finest boardwalks.

The parade starts at Missouri Street on the Hollywood Beach Broadwalk, and moves south until it reaches Harrison Street. Between Polk Street and Garfield Street, there will be complimentary bleachers set up at various locations. Event emcees will be found at the Hollywood Beach Theatre, located at Johnson Street; and at Charnow Park, located at Garfield Street.

The parade is set for 7:00 pm on December 7. Banner printing can be used to create sturdy decorations for outdoor use at events like this.
