Hollywood library to hold lecture on past mound builders

Those interested in a history lesson on Miami’s past inhabitants can attend a program in June at the Marta-Beth Friedman Stirling Road Library in Hollywood.

Miami and the Ancient Mound Builders is an educational program that people can attend to learn more about the Tequesta culture and their history. The presentation is part of the Hollywood Historical Society’s lecture series. It will be led by Jason Alvarez, a freelance researcher who works with the Bonnet House Museum & Gardens and the Broward County Parks & Recreation Department. Alvarez is also a Florida-Friendly Certified Professional.

The Hollywood Historical Society is a group that was created in 1974 to collect and maintain information about the city. The organization is based out of the Hammerstein House. Many events are organized by the historical society, including presentations on topics such as the Florida Land Boom and the Dania Vervet Monkey Project. The group also started the Historical Plaque Program and offers internship opportunities for college students.

The lecture on ancient mound builders will be held on Sunday, June 14th from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm. No registration is required for guests to attend Jason Alvarez’s presentation, and the event will be free to the public. Libraries that host similar lectures to this can use printing services to make ads that help advertise their educational events to more people.
