Music, literature, and history celebrated at local library

The Friends of the Stirling Road Branch Library in Hollywood have some special events and activities lined up for this month.

A new Tuesday evening Music Series will be hosted by Walter Ladden, starting on March 10. This series is free and will focus on classical music.

The Friends are also sponsoring Miriam Kalett, who will lead a short story group meeting on the fourth Tuesday of every month, beginning on March 24. The stories to be discussed will be ‘The Chosen Husband’ by Mavis Gallant and ‘The Last Mohican’ by Bernard Malamud

The Book Discussion Group will meet from 1:30 pm to 3:30 pm on Tuesday, March 17. It will be a discussion on ‘The Signature of All Things’ by Elizabeth Gilbert, led by Paul Lefrak.

Also, Throwback Saturdays are coming to the library to commemorate the 100th anniversary of Broward County. A family-focused series, each of the past 10 decades will be honored with its own games, Books, and treats. The director of Children and Youth Services, Sandy Shelhamer, created this series for children beginning at five years of age, along with their families. This month’s program is on March 28, beginning at 2:30 pm, and celebrates the 1940s by remembering Little Golden Books, Curious George, and Cootie!

The Friends most likely have turned to flyer printing companies to help with the printing of colorful and attractive Flyers announcing these activities.
