The Downtown Hollywood Mural Project (DHMP) currently has 18 contemporary outdoor murals on view throughout the downtown area, and is about to get one more.
The Radius Garage will become home to the work of the multimedia artists Monica and Tasha Lopez De Victoria, also known as the TM Sisters. They plan to paint a large-scale mural or a sunset and began working on February 8, with the intention of completing it by the end of this month.
This is the first time the sisters, born in Miami, have showcased their work in Hollywood. Rich in color, it is influenced by the landscape of South Florida. Their work has been exhibited in the Serpentine Gallery in London and featured in Vogue Italia, The New York Times, and STEP Inside Design, among other publications.
Project Manager and Arts Specialist for the Hollywood Community Redevelopment Agency, Jill Weisberg, commented that street art has helped to revitalize downtown Hollywood and bring aesthetic beauty and civic identity to the city. She added that it takes the talent of Monica and Tasha to turn a nondescript garage into something that people will want to make a special trip to see.
The Hollywood Community Redevelopment Agency may turn to using poster printing in the area, announcing the new artwork and when it will be ready for public viewing.
