Hollywoods going green

St. Patrick’s Day is on the way, and Hollywood is getting ready to celebrate with a festival and parade.

The Community Redevelopment Agency, the Hibernians of Hollywood, and the city proper are joining together to host a festival and parade celebrating all things Irish. The yearly St. Patrick’s Day Parade & Festival will be held downtown, and is free to everyone.

The parade route takes it from 21 Avenue east on Hollywood Boulevard to Young Circle, and will return to the starting point via Harrison Street. The parade’s emcee is Footy, a radio personality, and James Lawless is the grand marshal. There will be marching bands, bagpipe and drum corps, and floats by the dozen. Joining the party is the famous New York Police Department Emerald Society Pipe and Drum Corps.

Anniversary Park will be transformed into a kids’ area known as the ‘Magic of the Emerald Isle’, where they can take part in crafts and play games. The world-famous Budweiser Clydesdale eight-horse hitch will make a special appearance.

Downtown restaurants will serve specials including typical Irish fare like corned beef and cabbage, and beer is likely to be green.

The party takes place this Sunday, March 11, from noon until 6:00 pm in the city’s downtown; the parade steps off at 1:00 pm.

Events like this can be even more memorable if officials work with a banner printing company to create a special banner celebrating the day.
