The Art and Culture Center of Hollywood is currently hosting the fourth exhibition of the LEGO brick sculptor, Nathan Sawaya.
His new exhibit, titled ‘In Pieces’, was completed in collaboration with photographer Dean West from Australia. Most likely, poster printing is being used to get the word out about the exhibit which appeals to people of all ages.
Sawaya’s first exhibit at the Center, ‘The Art of the Brick’, was in 2012 and attracted people from 28 states and 26 countries. Since then, his work has become more widely accepted as artistic creations. Sawaya said that people expected LEGO art to be a toy truck or car, but their attitudes have changed after seeing his work.
According to curator Jane Hart, the Art and Culture Center was one of the institutions that enabled Sawaya to have one of his early solo shows. Hart added that, as Sawaya has a new body of work, it was a good time to bring him back to the museum for a return engagement.
New creations by Sawaya form part of the display, as do photos from West into which his sculptures have been incorporated. Children will no doubt like the LEGO aspect and adults will look towards the multimedia elements and the nature of the photography. According to Sawaya, the two styles have been combined to inspire people and LEGO art makes this more possible and accessible
