Hollywood library hosts Funday

The library in Hollywood was the site of a lot of fun recently, when the Friends of the Stirling Road Branch Library held a ‘Family Sunday Funday’.

The event took place early in May, and was designed to introduce children and their families to the local branch of the library.

The day was special for a lot of reasons, including the fact that some notable people dropped in to read to the children. Among the local celebrities was Josh Levy, the mayor of Hollywood, who enjoyed having the opportunity to interact with the youngsters. The book he chose was ‘If You Give a Mouse a Cookie’. Other community leaders also volunteered to read stories, including Hollywood Hills High School assistant principal Jacqueline Smith, who said she wanted to help promote and encourage literacy in children.

Alyssa Figueroa and Aliyah Jackson, who are students at the high school, worked as volunteers at Funday. Jackson said she liked helping youngsters and enjoyed the event. Also on hand was retired educator Sandi Levy, who continues to teach young people using art as a medium, and who gave a presentation on how to paint just for fun. There was even live music, and a family Zumba session.

Organizations like this might consider working with a brochure printing company to create Brochures that list all the amenities found in the facility.
