Fifth South America destination now available from local airport

JetBlue recently announced that it has added daily flights between Quito, Ecuador and the Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport.

The low-cost airline plans to introduce two new international routes from Hollywood and the new service to the Ecuadorian capital is the first of those routes. According to the vice president of network planning for JetBlue, Dave Clark, as Quito is the historic capital city of Ecuador, it has become one of the fastest-growing destinations in Latin America.

For the inaugural flight, there were festivities hosted by airline and airport officials for the crew and passengers before departure. There was a live band and free bites of Latin American delicacies.

The daily flight will be on an Airbus A320 aircraft that seats 150 people and will leave the airport at 7:00 pm, arriving in Quito at 10:34 pm.

According to the chief commercial officer for the Quito airport, Carlos Criado, having this flight is important to connecting Quito with the 10,000 Ecuadorians who live in Broward County, allowing them to visit family and friends back home while also boosting tourist traffic. It has taken two years to make this route a reality.

The two airports may be working together with a flyer printing company to create a piece with more information about the flight and various attractions and accommodations in Quito.
