Hialeah library to host overdose prevention training

The Hialeah Gardens Branch Library will be the venue for a class in May on how to prevent drug overdoses.

Drug Overdose Prevention Training is a program offered by the Fight Fentanyl organization that teaches people how they can save lives. The class will cover what to look for in an opioid overdose and show students how to properly use naloxone when responding to an overdose. Attendees will be taught important facts about fentanyl and its dangers. There will also be information about local resources, and all guests will receive complimentary naloxone kits.

Fight Fentanyl is a group that was created by Thomas Guerra in 2023 that combats overdose deaths by offering resources and education. Guerra graduated from Florida International University with a degree in Psychology and Mental Health Counseling. He also founded the Miami Recovery Project. Many events are organized by Fight Fentanyl, including presentations with public speakers who recovered from substance use disorders and recovery ally training sessions. The organization is partnered with groups like The Awesome Foundation and The Sandler Center.

The training session will be held on Thursday, May 21st, from 6:30 pm to 7:30 pm. There is no price to take part in the course, and registration isn’t required. The event is intended for those who are 19 and older. Libraries that hold prevention training courses like this can use printing services to make Posters and Flyers that share event dates and times with patrons.
