Race fans have an event coming up in Hialeah that should be fun.
Amelia Earhart Park will be the site of the upcoming Miami Spring Regatta. The largest lake in the park is about 2,900 feet across, so how can boats race there? Simple—they’re radio controlled.
The Racing Association of Miami is presenting the Regatta, which is a NAMBA (North American Model Boating Association) D3 district points race. This is the third race in the district; other races take place throughout the country in different NAMBA districts.
NAMBA, is known as NAMBA International, is a non-profit comprised of model boat clubs that sail radio-controlled vessels. The organization was formed in 1959 as the Westcoast Council of Model Boaters and raced using the rules of the International Model Power Boat Association.
Around 1970, the Westcoast Council recognized the requirement for a national organization, and numerous meetings were held throughout the country. Participants agreed on the name North American Model Boat Association, and the new organization devised a set of basic rules, which were adopted with the support of the Western Associated Modelers, who insured the original group. International groups were added in 1974.
NAMBA holds a week-long regatta annually, so each district has a chance to compete. The Regatta in Hialeah begins May 31, and continues through June. When events like this are planned, organizers may use flyer printing to create handouts for local distribution.
