A special event in Doral will highlight an ancient art.
The Doral Cultural Arts Center will be the location of a puppet show called “The Portrait of Judy,” which will be performed in Spanish. The show promises surprises, laughter, and a hint of magic.
The story centers on Punch, who wants to create a portrait of Judy, his wife. To do this, he considers the works of history’s most iconic painters, from van Gogh to Picasso, whose works come to life. However, Punch is not happy with the creations of these artists, so he decides to paint the masterpiece himself.
William Alonso, a noted plastic artist and puppet master, developed the show, which stars local fine artist Andrea Ciatti as Judy, in a production by Randy Waltz. Alonso is particularly enthusiastic about blending puppets and art.
The title of the show may suggest a reference to Judy Garland, but it is instead a nod to a classic British entertainment, the Punch and Judy Show. These puppet shows are run by a puppeteer known as the “Professor,” who may or may not have an assistant known as the “Bottler.” The shows are a series of scenes in which Punch interacts with other characters, most of whom become a victim of his slapstick.
The show is scheduled for June 20, from 6:30 pm until 8:30 pm. When performances like this are scheduled, organizers will often work with printers, who use poster printing to create suitable advertising.
