Grass River Property, which is based in Coconut Grove, and its affiliate, 7220 NW 36th Street Investments, just broke ground on a new Aloft Hotel, to be located near Doral.
The project was able to go ahead because Branch Banking & Trust provided an approximately $19m loan to the developers. Straticon, based in Stuart, is the general contractor.
With the money available, work was begun on the new hotel, which will have 125 rooms, and feature banquet halls, a pool, a restaurant, a fitness center, and 271 parking spaces. In order to make way for the hotel, the developer will raze an old office building located on the site. The 4.9-acre property was acquired in June 2014, for $5.8m, and lies just off the Palmetto Expressway.
Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide owns the Aloft Hotels chain, and opened the first in Montreal in 2008, at the Trudeau International Airport. Since then, a number of Aloft Hotels have gone into operation across North America and around the world, most located either near airports, or in city centers. Aloft Hotels are known for their modern architectural style.
As work progresses on the hotel, the developers might want to work with a banner printing company to create festive pieces to hang throughout the hotel to celebrate its opening and let people know of the plans.
