The Doral Branch of the Miami-Dade Public Library System recently moved, and can now be found in downtown Doral.
The library's new home is at 8551 NW 53 Street, A 107, which is in the heart of the city. The new branch replaces the current one, which is now closed. However, the same services, events, and programs that patrons enjoyed at the branch will continue to be offered downtown. In addition, the phone number and operating hours will not change. The hours for the relocated branch are 11:30 am until 8:00 pm Mondays and Wednesdays, 9:30 am until 6:00 pm Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays. The library is closed Sundays.
The library system dates back to 1894, when the Lemon City Reading Room opened. The following year, the Coconut Grove Reading Room opened, and the system began to grow. Various other locations were established, until in 1942, the libraries joined to create the City of Miami Public Library System. Then, in 1971, the county libraries joined with the city to create the Miami‑Dade Public Library System, which experienced significant growth as soon as it formed.
Today there are 50 branches, and two bookmobiles, and there are almost four million volumes in the system. Over one million people are registered to borrow Books, and the library averages nearly seven million visitors annually.
