Miss Universe is a pageant that has been held in some of the major cities in the world. However, the mayor of Doral, Luigi Boria, has expressed confidence that the city was an appropriate site for the occasion last month.
Located about 12 miles outside Miami, postcard printing companies in Doral could use pictures taken at the Miss Universe pageant to attract tourists in the future.
Mayor Boria said:
“I always had the dream of Doral being on the global radar. I have visions of Doral being a miniature Paris. It’s beautiful, it’s vibrant, there are many plans for growth – that is what we are able to showcase now, with the Miss Universe events here.”
Mayor Boria liaised with television personality Donald Trump to secure the prestigious event. Trump has been involved in business ventures in the area before, including a golf course. Although much of the big day was played out in Doral, part of the pageant took place within greater Miami.
Before Miss Universe was held in Doral, the holder of the position was Gabriela Isler who, like Boria, is from Venezuela. She has said that she was happy for the occasion to be held in a district with a considerable Venezuelan population.
