The Miss Universe Pageant will be coming to Doral early next year, and city council had decided to put its support behind it.
The council members voted to show their support by granting a $2.5m stipend for the pageant, $500,000 of which will come from the city, with the rest to come from private donors.
The event will take place at the Trump National Doral, Miami, which is owned by Donald Trump. It welcomes women from all around the world, and is one of the largest events of its kind. Between 80 and 100 women compete in the pageant, and the winner will hold her title for the span of one year.
According to the mayor, the pageant will provide stimulation to the economy not only in Doral, but in the surrounding area as well. It will also help to promote Doral to the rest of the world, as it will be featured through all the different phases of the event.
