Doral officials have announced an upcoming citizens' academy, and are encouraging people to apply.
The Mayor's Citizens Government Academy educates citizens on the way the city government works. The program is interactive, and is nine weeks in length. Attendees will learn about the services the government provides, how it functions, and any activities in which it is involved. People who attend the course will learn to communicate with staff members of the various city departments more effectively.
Attendees will have a chance to meet with city staffers, the directors of a number of departments, and city officials to learn from the experts how they do what they do. Program attendees will come away with a better understanding of the way in which the local government operates.
The course meetings will take place from 6:00 pm until 8:30 pm on Tuesday evenings in the Council Chambers at Government Center on NW 53rd Terrace. Space is limited, so people who are interested are encouraged to enroll immediately. Print shops can create materials to be used in courses like this.
Many cities across the nation offer this type of academy, or citizens police academies, to their residents. The goal of the courses is to allow residents to understand the intricacies of local government operations, and to build better relationships between government officials and the communities they serve.
The course does not begin until next March, but the deadline to enroll is Tuesday, September 17.
