Doral’s officials recently inaugurated a new emergency center with a special ceremony.
Doral Mayor Juan Carlos Bermudez, members of the Doral City Council, and officials from the city, state, and Miami-Dade County gathered to open the Divisional Emergency Operations center (EOC). A ribbon cutting, and the unveiling of a plaque, were part of the event. When the mayor spoke, he did so amidst cutting-edge computer monitoring systems.
The EOC would be the venue Mayor Bermudez would use to address the community during an actual emergency. Banner printing is often used to provide decorations for openings like this.
The EOC is in the same building with the Doral Police Department, which is built to withstand a Category 5 hurricane. In emergencies, the EOC will serve as a hub to coordinate response and recovery efforts. Should an emergency occur, the facility will offer a central area where response teams will be able to coordinate their efforts, gather vital information, and manage personnel. Having the EOC in operation will enable residents and businesses to recovery quickly from catastrophic events.
There are positions within the center for both night and day shifts from all the departments in the city. In order to facilitate collaboration, there is also room for personnel from other agencies, including the Village of Virginia Gardens, the Town of Medley, the City of Miami Springs, the American Red Cross, the U.S. Southern Command, Miami-Dade Police and Fire Department, and Florida Power & Light.
