The closed golf course in Doral, known as the White Course, could soon be sold for redevelopment as a housing project
Two Miami companies, Lennar Corporation and Codina Partners, jointly won the right to bid for the course. Other bidders included presidential hopeful Donald Trump, who owns a nearby resort, but he lost the bid.
The purchase price has not been revealed, and the deal has not closed. However, The Real Deal website, which tracks real estate transactions, said the asking price was more than $100m. The property comprises 130 acres, and is being sold by GIC, which is the sovereign fund representing the government of Singapore.
Developer Armando Codina was quoted as saying his company intends to split the course with Lennar, both taking half. Codina's plans for the development include building 390 single-family houses, as well as 90 townhomes, on his part of the property.
The White Course is adjacent to Downtown Doral, a Codina mixed-use development that includes a condo tower, townhouses, offices, a charter school, and a number of retail spaces. Its location is likely to make the new project appealing to families, renters, and businesses alike.
When the project gets underway, the developers might consider creating Brochures describing its amenities, and making them available to both commercial and residential realtors to present to their clients.
