During its regular May meeting, members of the Doral City Council passed a number of ordinances, some of which impact significantly on plans for the downtown area, including expanding
the school project.
According to the Miami Herald, a measure to reconfigure the Downtown Doral development passed on its second reading. The project, which is being handled by Codina Partners, is a mixed-use development comprising 120 acres. It was originally to comprise luxury condos, apartments, townhouses, shops, buildings, restaurants, a government center, a park featuring a pavilion for public art, and a charter school.
At the meeting, the city council voted to expand the Charter Elementary School that is part of the project. Now, plans will change to include a 6-12 Center, with the option of adding a space for performing arts, or an amphitheater, at a later date.
Also, Codina Partners, the developer, will furnish $1.5 million to be used to build an arts pavilion adjacent to the park. The money will also be used to run trolleys between the Medley Commuter Rail station, and the city's downtown.
In addition, Codina Partners offered to make retail space comprising 1,000 square feet available as a police station. The storefront facility would be staffed by two officers on bicycle patrol.
Government agencies at all levels can work with newsletter printing companies to create mailers that keep residents updated on community projects.
