New transportation options offered free of cost

The Downtown Roundabout Trolley in Delray Beach will be replaced by two other transportation options which will be free for riders using the service. The service will be operated by Freebee which is an advocate of go-green initiatives and operates in several other cities.

When options open up to the public, transportation companies can use Print shops to obtain flyer printing and brochure printing services to advertise their routes and services for those who do not have easy access to the internet or the company’s smart phone app.

As announced by the Delray Beach Community Redevelopment Agency, the new routes will include on-demand requests as well as fixed routes to downtown. The initiative labeled “Connect Delray Beach” will be under a new contract which among other things will use fuel efficient vehicles.

The trolley services ran round-trip from Ocean Boulevard (A1A) and the Tri-Rail station. The new routes will be the same, running along Atlantic Avenue, but will include a handful of new stops. Within the city, Freebee will offer transportation using vehicles that riders can request through the downloaded app.

The Community Redevelopment Agency board hinted of these changes in a meeting held in March. Their intentions were to keep the current available routes but offer riders other choices. They specifically focused on environmentally friendly options at no cost to users. The expenses will be covered by the agency’s budget, which currently has over $700K available to fund the venture.

The new services will begin on Tuesday, September 3rd.
